Success at Rutherford Head

The Senior Squad finally got it’s first chance to race this season with it’s annual trip up to the Tyne to race at Rutherford Head.

Having missed out on the Fours Head and with York Small Boats Head being cancelled, this was an opportunity to get out in some bigger boats for many of our squads.

This year was a bit of a year of firsts by sending not just one women’s eight, but three, showing the real strength in depth in the squad this season.

For the men it was to be a challenging day in some highly competitive categories, but there were some good lessons learned on making the step up into more challenging bands.

For the women, we had two crews in band 3 and one in band 5 of Women’s Eights and had a successful day with a 2nd place in band 3 eights and a win in band 5 eights. This is the first time that Leeds Rowing Club has won in the eights category at Rutherford Head so it was great to get the win.

Thanks as always to the University of Leeds BC for towing the trailer and to Cross Keys Garage Morley for the free use of one of their Isuzu 4x4’s to tow
